To solve a steep-site parking issue, this Ngaio property was upgraded with a custom steel-framed two-car deck. Designed in collaboration with engineers, the structure spans over existing drainage and concrete paths without disturbing the landscape. This two-bedroom character cottage in Kilbirnie was transformed into a modern three-bedroom home through a thoughtful extension and full internal reconfiguration. The front garden was repurposed to expand the home toward the street, with a new insulated concrete slab and floor levels matched for seamless flow. Double glazing was retrofitted to original windows, and structural reinforcements were discreetly integrated to preserve charm while upgrading performance. The three-month build also included a new rear deck and garage, improving both function and lifestyle for the growing family.

The old plaster cladding was removed, framing repaired, and the home rewrapped with a modern weather-tight system before being finished in timeless timber weatherboards. New double-glazed PVC windows and doors were installed throughout, along with upgraded insulation and flashings for lasting protection.
